The University of Lisbon marked International Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Divas) with a vibrant celebration, highlighting the global significance of the Hindi language. Ambassador Puneet Roy Kundal addressed the gathering, emphasizing the richness of Hindi as a language and its role as a unifying force. He also spoke about Hindi’s profound influence in Bollywood and Indian cinema, which has played a key role in popularizing the language worldwide.

The event was further enriched by captivating performances from an Indian dance group, adding a cultural touch to the evening. Students showcased their linguistic skills through recitations of Hindi poetry, presented both in-person and online, demonstrating their deep engagement with the language.

A special highlight of the occasion was the presence of Prof. Manjulata Sharma, who recently translated renowned Portuguese writer Fernando Pessoa’s book Mensagem into Hindi, fostering a literary bridge between the two cultures.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from members of the Indian community, and dignitaries. Organized in collaboration with Casa da Índia and the Indian Studies Centre, Lisbon, the celebration reaffirmed Hindi’s growing global presence, transcending borders and uniting people across cultures.
