President Droupadi Murmu and President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal graced a special ceremony at Palácio de Belém in Lisbon to launch commemorative postage stamps marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal.

The two leaders were received with formal protocol, including a photo opportunity in the Sala das Bicas, where President Murmu also signed the Book of Honour. Following mutual introductions of the official delegations, both Presidents proceeded to the Ambassador’s Hall for the stamp launch ceremony.

The stamps beautifully capture the vibrant cultural heritage of both nations, featuring Rajasthan’s iconic Kalbeliya attire and Portugal’s traditional Viana do Castelo dress. President Murmu applied the first stamp cancellation, followed by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the CEO of the Portuguese Postal Organization. The dignitaries then signed and exchanged the first day covers, including special editions reserved for the Portuguese Presidential Museum, India Post Archives, and the Postal Museum.

The event concluded with an official photograph of the two Presidents holding the commemorative stamps and the Indian presentation packs, symbolizing the enduring friendship and cultural connection between India and Portugal.
