President Droupadi Murmu attended a State Banquet hosted in her honour by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal at the historic Palácio da Ajuda in Lisbon. In her remarks, President Murmu highlighted that this year marks a milestone as India and Portugal celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations. She emphasised that the natural synergy and immense potential for cooperation between the two nations are paving the way for a dynamic and forward-looking partnership rooted in historic ties.

The evening became particularly memorable with a soul-stirring performance by renowned Portuguese Fado musician Rão Kyao, who played a bamboo flute rendition of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, Vaishnava Jana To. The performance beautifully reflected India’s rich spiritual heritage and created a moving confluence of Indian and Portuguese cultures. President Murmu expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the artist for this evocative tribute that resonated deeply with the audience.
