President Droupadi Murmu was warmly received by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa upon her arrival at the Champalimaud Foundation in Lisbon. She was accompanied by Minister of State Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya and Members of Parliament Shri Dhaval Patel and Smt. Sandhya Ray. The two Presidents visited the renowned institution to witness its pioneering work in neuroscience, oncology, experimental clinical research, and automated medicine delivery.

They were welcomed by Dr. Leonor Beleza, President of the Foundation. The visit included a briefing on the Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities, and the symbolic planting of a Camellia Japonica tree—celebrating the growing friendship between India and Portugal.

Inside the iconic building—designed by acclaimed Indian architect Charles Correa—the Presidents observed a demonstration of a robotic system that delivers medicines to cancer patients, followed by a tour of the neuroscience research wing, highlighting the Foundation’s contributions to cutting-edge medical innovation.
