President Droupadi Murmu was warmly received by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa during her visit to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi in Lisbon. She was also welcomed by Mr. Ricardo Mexia, President of the Junta de Freguesia (Lumiar), and Mr. Manuel Mulji, President of the Hindu Community of Portugal.

President Murmu paid floral tributes at the statue, honouring the enduring legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi. She was then escorted on foot to the nearby Radha-Krishna Temple, where she was welcomed by members of the Indian community.

In accordance with tradition, the President removed her shoes before entering the temple. She offered prayers at the statue of Radha-Krishna, participated in a puja led by the temple priest, and performed parikrama (circumambulation) as a mark of devotion.

The visit reflected the deep spiritual and cultural ties between India and its diaspora, and the shared respect for Gandhian values across the world.
