65th Anniversary of the Republic Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy Residence in Lisbon, January 26, 2015

On January 26, 2015, the 65th anniversary of the Republic Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy Residence in Lisbon. About 90 Indian citizens, persons of Indian origin and Portuguese friends of India attended. The Ambassador unfurled the Indian National Flag, followed by the singing of the Indian National Anthem, and the reading of the President of India´s address to the nation. 

During the celebrations, the Ambassador, Dr. Jitendra Nath Misra conveyed greetings to Jagat Guru Amrta Súryánanda Mahá Rája, President of the Portuguese Yoga Confederation, who has been awarded the Padma Shri for the year 2015. The Portuguese Yoga Confederation has done stellar work in promoting Yoga in Portugal and the world at large. 

The celebrations concluded with a cultural performance featuring a demonstration of Yoga by the Portuguese Yoga Confederation, and Odissi and Bharatanatyam performances by Ms. Miriam and Ms. Tarikavalli. 

As a token of appreciation and respect, the Ambassador, Mrs Ratnaprava Misra, Jagat Guru Amrta Súryánanda Mahá Rája, Professor Dr. Paulo Farmhouse Alberto and leaders of Indian community organizations presented gifts of books to the artists.
