Subject: Re-issuance of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card

To streamline the process of re-issuance of OCI cards, the Government of India has decided the following:

I) There is no need to renew OCI card each time a new passport is issued. The OCI cardholders are now required to get the OCI card re-issued only once when a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age.

ii)The OCI Miscellaneous Services web portal (https://ociservices.gov.in/capchaActionMisc) is being updated for a new document upload feature ( mentioned below) which is expected to start by the end of May 2021. OCI cardholders are therefore requested to wait for the portal to be updated before submitting any application for re-issuance of their OCI cards. Further, the deadline for re-issuance of OCI cards has been extended till 31 December 2021.

(ii) OCI cardholders will be required to upload ONLINE a copy of the new passport and the latest photo each time a new passport is issued up to 20 years of age and once after completing 50 years of age. The documents must be uploaded within three months of receipt of the new passport. This online service is free for everyone.

(iii) If you are a foreign spouse of an Indian citizen/OCI cardholder holding an OCI card and married to an Indian citizen/OCI card holder, each time a new passport is issued, you are required to upload online a copy of your new passport, latest photo, a declaration regarding subsisting of marriage and a copy of the Indian passport/OCI Cardholder of your spouse in the online system.

(v) There will be no restriction on the OCI Cardholder to travel to/from India during the period from the date of issue of the new passport till the date of the final acknowledgement of his/her documents in the online system. However, the ongoing pandemic-related travel restrictions apply.

vii) OCI Cardholders travelling on the basis of their existing OCI Card bearing an old passport number are NOT required to carry their old passport.
