  • The entire process of e-Visa (application, payment and receiving the visa) is online.
  • The Embassy does not play any role in granting e-Visa, or accepting/refunding payment for it.

Who is eligible for e-Visa?
  • International Travellers whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight-seeing, casual visit to meet friends or relatives, short duration medical treatment or casual business visit.
  • Portuguese nationals are eligible. For the complete list of eligible countries/territories, visit the official website.
Who is not eligible for e-Visa?
  • Pakistani passport holders or persons of Pakistani origin — must apply for a regular visa at an Indian Mission.
  • Diplomatic/Official passport holders or Laissez-passer travel document holders.
  • Individuals endorsed on a parent's/spouse's passport — each individual needs a separate passport.
  • International Travel Document holders.
What do I need to apply for e-Visa?
  • Passport with at least six months' validity from date of arrival in India, and at least two blank pages for immigration stamping.
  • A return or onward journey ticket and sufficient money to spend during the stay in India.
When can I apply for e-Visa?

Minimum 4 days in advance of the arrival date, within a window of 120 days. Example: if applying on 1st September, arrival date can be selected from 5th September to 2nd January.

What documents are required for e-Visa?
  • Recent front-facing photograph with white background.
  • Photo page of the passport (name, date of birth, nationality, expiry date, etc.).
  • One additional document may be required depending on the e-Visa type.
How much is the e-Visa fee?
  • For Portuguese nationals: USD 80 (plus 2.5% bank transaction charges).
  • For other nationalities, refer to the official fee schedule on the e-Visa website.
  • Fee payment status update may take up to 4 hours. Wait 4 hours before re-applying.
  • If the fee was deducted but status isn't updated, verify via the "Verify Payment/Pay Visa Fee" tab on the official website.
What about biometrics?

Biometric details are mandatorily captured at Immigration on arrival in India.

What are the entry points?

e-Visa is valid for entry through 24 designated airports (Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum & Varanasi) and 4 designated seaports (Mumbai, Cochin, Goa, Mangalore). Exit is permitted from any authorised Immigration Check Post in India.

How many times can I avail e-Visa in a year?

Maximum of two times in a calendar year (January to December).

Any other important information?
  • e-Visa is non-extendable, non-convertible, and not valid for Protected/Restricted/Cantonment Areas — prior permission from the Civil Authority is required for those.
  • Be careful when paying the e-Visa fee — more than 3 unsuccessful attempts will block the application ID, requiring a fresh application.
  • Fee payment status update may take up to 4 hours; wait before re-applying and verify via "Verify Payment/Pay Visa Fee" if deducted but not reflected.
  • Travellers from Yellow Fever affected countries must carry a Yellow Fever Vaccination Card on arrival, or may be quarantined for 6 days.
